FAMILY TREE ET ALL

To begin from the beginning,  soon after the Creation by ?  big bang theory,first came GOD and then came my thaatha from Haripad a town near Alleppey in state of Kerala,then called state of Travancore.My thaatha Sri Kulathu Iyer alias Harihara Subramanyan was born in the year 1902 and my paatti Smt.Krishnammal born in 1909, from Kollam.This Kulathu Iyer was a complete self made man.I don't think he studied above secondary school education ,but was a Sanskrit scholar.He told me ,he worked as a peon in a school,later became a teacher,then did some job as a sirasthedar in haripad court,then  as a collecting agent to a financier,subleased a small cinema theatre which failed,and by this time he had a 3.5 acre land and a pucca house called Koipallimadom,with 3 small ponds,large number of coconut trees mango trees and was in to full time cultivation. He had also some lands where he cultivated paddy,which he disposed for marrying his three daughters.Working in court ,he had become an expert in Hindu Undivided Family laws of partition and many from nearby lands seeked his advice on partition He was a Fife foot  dictator in home. Hearsay, accounts his father Krishna Iyer and Kupuchy his mom ,came from the village of Kongarayarkurichy near Valladu  in Thirunelveli dist,Tamilnadu and his family deity was Chattanathar,in Kongarayarkurichy Siva temple there.After arrival in haripad a boy was born late and was named after Ayyappa,from Thakazhi and Subramanya temple in Haripad and hence the name Harihara Subramanyan.The boy was put as an adimai (slave) in Thakazhi temple.Hence then this adima seva started, putting the eldest child adimai in that temple.My thatha had five children,eldest being my father K.Krishna Iyer alias Mani born in 1925 in Nagercoil but living in Haripad.My mother R.Lekshmi came from Kollam and was born in 1935 at Kollam.He had a brother K.Sankara Iyer, three sisters, Raji,Thankom and Shenbakom,mother of Pushpa  ,my brother's wife.
   To come back to Krishnayer and kuppuchi patti of Kongarayarkurichy,he was born of Sankara iyer.N,who was born of one Nanu Iyer who was born of or from one Sankara Iyer.The nameology ends there.There is a slight twist in the story here.The Sankara Iyer the oldest or the first one of this geneology han no issues.Then the family adopted one son from a relative family from Kongarayarkurichy.i.e Nanu Iyer of Dhananjaya gothra.The ceremoney is called ' sweekarom',by which the gothra of boy changes to athreya gothra which is the gothra of Sankaraiyer.Hence without this adoption there would have been me or my thaatha.
    I was always wondering how my thatha's thatha came down all the way from kongarakurissy to Haripad in the late 1880 to 1900.one thing  I know, most of Chozhiya brahmin community now settled in Kochi,Alleppey,Kollam ,Trivandrum emigrated to Travancore around this period. I tried the Google and found that there was a severe famine and plenty of plague cases in Tirunelveli around that time and they came down the chenkottai pass to kollam.Another theory was the erlsewhile rulers of Travancore encouraged Brahmins to their state since the Namboothiris (the original malayali Brahmins ) charged the king excessively for rituals.Thus We all came from Tamilnadu to Kerala for survival only, like how sir shyam had migrated to UK.
   So the pecking order of my parental side starts from Sankara Iyer,Nanu Iyer,Sankara Iyer,Krishna Iyer & Kuppuchi ,Kulathu iyer&Krishnammal-(1902 to 1980),Krishna Iyer& Lekshmi(1925 to 2008),Harihara Suramanyan& Chellammal (1953,1956), Shyam & Shankar,then Kavya ,the great.
